EXPERIENCE Vs REALITY Cont...
Christy held on to the story handed down to her by her father.
And for fear of bringing shame and heartbreak to her parents she decided to follow
line by line all she is instructed to do or not to do. She was indeed an obedient
child.
Another chapter of her life opened when she gained admission
into the best secondary school in her state. Her father had swore to sponsor his
children to whatever academic height they desire. She was so excited as she was
to start her senior secondary school life in a new environment and it was a boarding
school. Although she didn't keep friends, she loved adventures and knowing new places.
She was also a very inquisitive young child.
Her mother being an educated woman was a very patient listener
who always gave ears to her numerous questions no matter how deep they were. She
answered them all and taught her about Sex education cause she was already in her
adolescence.
Immediately, preparations to go to her new school began. She
went shopping with her mother who carefully guided her on things necessary for her.
She got more than enough to sustain her from the time she gets
there to the next visiting day.
The following day, she set out very early with her father and
mother to go to school. Of course, her father didn't forget to preach his sermon
of 'stay away from friends'. She smiled and said " Dad, I won't forget, I won't
disappoint you". Her mother also added to the sermon of 'know the daughter
of whom you are, face your studies and be a good girl. Please don't break our hearts
& always pray". She said these in tears as she was going to miss her dear
daughter so much.
Christy hugged her parents a midst tears and sobbing. It was
an emotional moment for the Alberts. But they had to go and trust God to keep their
daughter safe for them.
The first day of resumption
was for familiarization, knowing the school environment and get the hostel allocated
for each student.
Fortunately, her hostel wasn't so far from her class and as a
studious girls, it was an open opportunity to her. Christy was poisoned to stay
glued to her books, her God and nothing else.
Learning started with
her favourite subject Mathematics. Though it was higher than her junior secondary
level, she didn't find it difficult to catch up. This made her stand out in this
subject. Her teacher was a young female Corp member who was so friendly and patient.
This made her fall in love with the subject the more. In contrast to this, her English
teacher was a talk, dark and unfriendly man who had an accent that made the subject
very uninteresting. Despite this, Christy made up mind to put in her best to excel
in the subject.
What do think would be the fate of this bright girl knowing
the warnings of her parents? Would she survive without the help of friends?
