The Fight between Chelsea and Manchester United

It's no news that football or soccer is a universally accepted game that brings people irrespective of their ethnicity together. The passion football lovers exhibit at the sight of the game tell me that, whenever passion is present, anything is possible.

Back in my university days, my younger sister who loved football(still does till date) could sacrifice her last penny to go watch football. She is a strong Man Utd fan. Many times, she came back really exited about the outcome, other times so sad that everybody around could just tell that something was wrong. That is passion! There were times when she went as far as watching it on credit, with the intention to pay later. She may even look for who will pay for her. Her love for it was so strong that it got to a point where they allowed her watch for free. The owners of the view center had never seen a girl with so much love and passion for football like her.

Chelsea and Manchester Utd are two club that I know have this long standing fight and we all know that its not just a club fight but a fan fight. By that I mean that, people who are not just fans of these clubs, they are also fans of the star players. Today's match between Barcelona and Liverpool has been trending. Mohamed Salah's injury, whether or not he can play or if Liverpool can have a come back without him. This shows that fans are interested in the well being of their clubs. I would term this loyalty and passion. I have often heard my husband call one the G.O.A.T. Well, I won't dwell too much on that meaning and what league it applies to.

My point is this, the achievements of both clubs/ star players have over the years made people stick with them irrespective of whether they win or lose. They stay loyal and are supportive of their clubs. This is how far passion and love can go.

In this season of UEFA champions league, its been back to back and while some clubs climb up the table, others climb down yet they have loyal fans who will pay money just to watch their favourite clubs. Some get really upset when their clubs don't meet their expectations. Some even go as far as betting now. The numerous sport betting centres have made it easy.

I once heard of a man who beat up his wife and children mercilessly because his football club lost. I understand the pain and disappointment but why take it on your family?
I'm not a football fan but my husband is. And while I was pregnant, I used to go with him to watch football. It was fun anyway but most times when his club lost, he gets back home, brings out his game pad, set his game between his club and the same club they played against but lost. He ensures that that he wins his opponent just to get the fulfilment that he would have gotten if his club had won after all, both of them are games. He does this because he is determined to keep his joy by all means. Nothing, not even football can steal it, so he says.

I think this approach is better and more reasonable than transferring frustration and anger from a mere game to your family/anyone.

I have also seen men and youths fight in a football view center because of the outcome of a match maybe as a result of an argument or opinion given. They get injured and turn apart because of a sport that the players may never know them and they are not rewarded in anyway.

Football is just a game and it should be for fun and relaxation. Anything short of  this defeat the purpose. There is no excuse for a fight as a result of the outcome of a game by fans!!

  2. Nice one dear, Nothing is worth stealing your joy... not even a football match after all, it's just a game. if you have a game pad like me, do a rematch on you PS and play until you defeat that team if that will make you happy.. If the team proves difficult, reduce the difficulty level... LOL.. I don't do that part anyway.. I'm a pro. Any good thing for your joy is worth it.
