DIGGING OUT THE BEST IN AGRICULTURE THROUGH SCIENTIFIC IMPROVEMENT
Agriculture has always being the pride of Nigeria and Africa in general. This is so because so much had been tapped in the wealth embedded in Agriculture.
Before the discovery of oil, Agriculture was and still is  the major area Nigeria was and still is known for. We exported cocoa, and other produce to other countries.
A lot of people have gone into agriculture on a subsistent level and also on a large scale level. Agriculture has long become an essential and vital part of life/ human existence. Its benefits to the world at large is numerous. It has brought in foreign exchange, employment, increase in Gross domestic production (GDP) and has been a major source of getting raw materials to the manufacturing industries across countries.
Someone once said "no food no future" and this has proven itself to be very true. The very essence of human existence is agriculture and its end product getting to the customers.
In our present world, agriculture is one of the highest ranking trends in the world.  Scientific improvements and discoveries have been made to make farming quite easy.
Farm robotics where robots are used to plant, (across the agricultural value chain, from planting to harvesting) harvesting and processing of farm produce , soil less agriculture, fast growing species, genetically modified organisms(GMO), integrated farming, pest resistant seeds, drone services to monitor farms/fields, biotech and so on.
Before now, people taught Agriculture was  strictly for the uneducated and uncivilized people who could do dirty jobs such as farm work. Agriculture was termed a dirty job by the so called learned but today, the educated have taken over this field, harnessing its potentials.
More research and improvement is being made in the growth of this sector of the economy and gone are days when farmers struggle to get bountiful harvest because of some natural causes or interference in the growth of crops/plants.
An improved area of agriculture is organic and non organic  fertilizer which has more advantages on both plants and humans compared to genetically modified organisms(GMO) that has been introduced into farming. Seeds are mixed with chemicals that contain toxins against pests that destruct the growth of plants and crops. As much as improvement has to be made in the growing of farm produce, consideration should be given to its aftermath effects on lives and the environment.
These improvements are just to enhance /encourage the productivity of farmers and ensure a good  harvest at the end of the season. Though these genetically modified organism have their disadvantages, it must be noted that the original reason for coming up with the idea is to enhance farm produce.
Agriculture has given birth to so many discoveries that has birthed the research of some crops/plants and farm produce being made into several food/clothing form today.
Guiness  Nigerial plc recently flagged off an agriculture scheme to help Government achieve its aim of building an agriculturally strong country and the Federal Government’s policy on diversification and local content, saying the growth of the agricultural value.

This goes to show that a lot of countries, private investor, individuals are interested in Agricultural developments today.

  1. Food security and environmental conservation are two of the greatest challenges facing the world today. It is predicated that by 2050 production most increase by at least 70% to support continued population growth. An objective to face these challenges is the development of productive, sustainable and resource-efficient primary production systems
