I am Yoruba so why must I marry from my tribe?!!

Image
Wednesday last week, my husband and I went over to my daughter's school to sort out some details with the school administrator. Prior to this time, I had suspected that she (the admin officer) was from my place of origin because I heard her speak my dialect (A dialect is a language spoken by a minority with differences in vocabulary, style, spelling and pronunciation belonging to a community or small group of people). But I wasn't so sure and didn't want to be too forward in asking her. So, while we got talking, along the line, we affirmed that she was from my place of origin. We were both so excited to know that! In excitement she stated her love for couples who speak same language apart from English. In her words, "I really love it when husband and wife communicate in the same local dialect instead of English as a result of language barrier". Now, when I was single, I  despised men from my tribe. In fact, I never dated a man from my tribe because I wanted t...

Nigeria @59, should Nigerians celebrate independence day?

Image
As we mark 59 years of independence as a country, what can we sincerely be happy about? I personally have reflected on our present state and national anthem and I feel very sad meditating on the wordings so much so that i don't sing it anymore. This is because, i see my fellow citizens starving in the midst of so much sumptuous meals. With the abundance of mineral resources and wealth God put at our disposal, he expects Nigeria to flourish and live in prosperity. At 59, Nigerians should have unlimited access to the essentials of life. At this age, the average Nigerian can't afford at least a three square meal, quality education for their children, free health care and others. Do you know that, with the abundance of wealth at our disposal, every Nigerian can have luxury, good housing, free meals, education, top notch health care services and excellent infrastructural facilities? At 59, children die of starvation and the crime/rape rate has skyrocketed that it is now ...

WHAT IS THE BUSINESS ASPECT OF MY PROFESSION?

Image
I have always been of the strong opinion that those who stay strictly on what they studied in school are the poorest on earth. By this I mean, living on and relying on your academic qualification or a salary job can limit you forever. I grew up in a home where my Dad was a civil servant and my Mom a business woman. Life was not so smooth but I can remember that we didn't lack anything as children. My Dad later dived into business just to get an extra source of income as responsibilities grew. This made me fully understand the importance of living outside the confides of just one stream of income. Now, a young man goes through a medical school for example, graduates and he is believed to be an accomplished person. His family looks up to and expects him to meet their needs at a single call. But in some parts of the world, Doctors are under paid compared to the volume of work demand on them. What they go home with at the end of the month is so little that most Doctors can't...

THE PAINS DIDN'T DISAPPEAR AFTER DELIVERING MY BABY AS POPULARLY BELIEVED

Image
Look here! And Let me tell you the truth, the first time I set my eyes on my beautiful baby I had just given birth to, my pain did not disappear anywhere!!! πŸ˜•In fact, I will tell you exactly what I said, cause I remember that day, like I remember my name. After the nurse put the bundle of joy in my arms, I looked at my newborn baby straight in the eye and said, "My girl, welcome. I'm happy you are here finally but I am very tired right now". Right after that, I dropped my baby down, by the side of the bed and slept off 🀷‍♀️ All ye supermoms whose pain disappeared as soon as you saw the baby, I celebrate you πŸ™Œ All I was busy thinking of, was that episiotomy abi what do they call it ?πŸ™„  I didn't even want anybody to be 100 centimetres near me sefπŸ™…‍♀️ I only took the baby because it was hospital policy. At the time, I needed that sleep more than 'love at first sight'. Anyway, I just thought I'd encourage you who shares the same experience wit...

Why I didn't marry an African man

Image
Marriage is the only institution that brings two different individuals together and they become one not two. It is a sacred union and individuals involved are accountable to God for what they do in it. Like I always say, who one decides to marry can either make you forever or totally disrupt your purpose for the rest of your life except for mercy. This is why it is very important for singles to be careful and patient in choosing who they intend to ride with through out life. Great people have been shut down because they chose the wrong partners. When I hear men boast or pride in " I am an African man", I wonder what exactly they mean. Do they mean that they are just proud of their identity as Blacks or that they are in support of traditions that work against the institution of marriage. Any woman that ends up with men who possess such archaic African mindset is doomed for life. I can proudly and emphatically say that I chose the right man for me who happens not to be ...

Steps to being an amazing in-law

Image
The word in-law is to some a good idea and to others a horrible idea from whoever initiated it. Regardless of what you think about the word ' in-law', my question is, what kind of in-law are you and what kind of in-law would you want to be even as a single or as young man/young woman ? I'm doing a comprehensive book write up about in-laws to show God's original plan for this idea. It is to fuse families, irrespective of background and ethnicity. Now, you have issues with your in-laws? Fine! But what kind are you? For an instance, I have heard wives complain about their mothers in-law which is natural 'cause everybody can't act the same but now that you are a mother, what kind of mother in-laws would you want to be? Loving, peaceful, large hearted, supportive, tolerant  or troublesome, picky, self righteous and controlling? Whenever I remember the law of sowing and reaping, it puts me in check as a woman. I don't want to sow what I won't ...

This Evil called Rape

Image
Rape simply put means to forcefully have sexual intercourse with either a male or a female. It is also to over power and utter defeat of a person to have sexual intercourse with them (either male or female) without their consent. Now, from my definition, some may query why I include the male gender in my definition of rape. Rape can be done to either male or female. I have had the opportunity to meet people who were victims of rape in primary, secondary  and university stage. One of them who experienced it while in primary school said he was raped by more than two ladies on his way from the library in his school. They were quite older than him and even though they were caught, the damage had already been done. It was a horrible experience that can never forget no matter how hard h tries to forget. This is why it won't be fair for us to narrow it to just females alone. During sex, the woman must be adequately lubricated for easy penetration but when this is not achieved, it mak...
