The plight of a Lagos mother: a cry for help!

Image
Since the discovery of COVID-19 VIRUS in Nigeria, life has not been the same for Lagosian especially. The fear of the unknown and the scare from all the cases around the world so far has made people extra careful. Now, the first case was recorded in Lagos and this increased the fear and tension in the hearts of manyπŸ˜₯πŸ₯ΆπŸ˜¨ Last week, the Government did good by announcing that schools will be shut down till further notice to keep our young and innocent children safeπŸ‘ΆπŸ‘§πŸ»πŸ§’πŸ»πŸ‘¦πŸ». Later on, government also instructed that government establishments be shut down. Which is very commendable. I have been home with my daughter since last week. Yes, you can say that we have been in self isolation🀣🀣🀣🀣. Anyhow, we are staying safe while we keep Faith strongπŸ’ͺ🏼πŸ’ͺ🏼 With little or no statement about private companies and all. This gets me thinking, could it be that The government don't care about the workers in the private sector of our country?πŸ€”πŸ˜ŸπŸ™„ Here are my concerns: I kn...

HOW I GOT MY NAME AND WHY I WILL STICK TO IT

For me, a name is spiritual and unique. No two people who bear the same name are the same. Names goes along way to place value and singles one out of a crowd. A name is not just a form of identity, it's a person's story, prophecy being fulfilled or going to be fulfilled or a testimony to the a past event. What people are named varies from person to person, from tribe to tribe and from culture to culture. In this part of the world (Nigeria), names are mostly given based on past experiences, prophecies fulfilled, agony or pain surrounding a birth etc. When parents get a full and proper understanding of the importance of giving positive names to their children, they will apply  wisdom and care in naming. These names follows an individual for life. This is why most people especially Ladies change their names later in life. As soon as they grow up to the realization of the meaning and its effect on their lives, they seek for another more meaningful name to identify with. I must...

I am Yoruba so why must I marry from my tribe?!!

Image
Wednesday last week, my husband and I went over to my daughter's school to sort out some details with the school administrator. Prior to this time, I had suspected that she (the admin officer) was from my place of origin because I heard her speak my dialect (A dialect is a language spoken by a minority with differences in vocabulary, style, spelling and pronunciation belonging to a community or small group of people). But I wasn't so sure and didn't want to be too forward in asking her. So, while we got talking, along the line, we affirmed that she was from my place of origin. We were both so excited to know that! In excitement she stated her love for couples who speak same language apart from English. In her words, "I really love it when husband and wife communicate in the same local dialect instead of English as a result of language barrier". Now, when I was single, I  despised men from my tribe. In fact, I never dated a man from my tribe because I wanted t...

Nigeria @59, should Nigerians celebrate independence day?

Image
As we mark 59 years of independence as a country, what can we sincerely be happy about? I personally have reflected on our present state and national anthem and I feel very sad meditating on the wordings so much so that i don't sing it anymore. This is because, i see my fellow citizens starving in the midst of so much sumptuous meals. With the abundance of mineral resources and wealth God put at our disposal, he expects Nigeria to flourish and live in prosperity. At 59, Nigerians should have unlimited access to the essentials of life. At this age, the average Nigerian can't afford at least a three square meal, quality education for their children, free health care and others. Do you know that, with the abundance of wealth at our disposal, every Nigerian can have luxury, good housing, free meals, education, top notch health care services and excellent infrastructural facilities? At 59, children die of starvation and the crime/rape rate has skyrocketed that it is now ...

WHAT IS THE BUSINESS ASPECT OF MY PROFESSION?

Image
I have always been of the strong opinion that those who stay strictly on what they studied in school are the poorest on earth. By this I mean, living on and relying on your academic qualification or a salary job can limit you forever. I grew up in a home where my Dad was a civil servant and my Mom a business woman. Life was not so smooth but I can remember that we didn't lack anything as children. My Dad later dived into business just to get an extra source of income as responsibilities grew. This made me fully understand the importance of living outside the confides of just one stream of income. Now, a young man goes through a medical school for example, graduates and he is believed to be an accomplished person. His family looks up to and expects him to meet their needs at a single call. But in some parts of the world, Doctors are under paid compared to the volume of work demand on them. What they go home with at the end of the month is so little that most Doctors can't...

THE PAINS DIDN'T DISAPPEAR AFTER DELIVERING MY BABY AS POPULARLY BELIEVED

Image
Look here! And Let me tell you the truth, the first time I set my eyes on my beautiful baby I had just given birth to, my pain did not disappear anywhere!!! πŸ˜•In fact, I will tell you exactly what I said, cause I remember that day, like I remember my name. After the nurse put the bundle of joy in my arms, I looked at my newborn baby straight in the eye and said, "My girl, welcome. I'm happy you are here finally but I am very tired right now". Right after that, I dropped my baby down, by the side of the bed and slept off 🀷‍♀️ All ye supermoms whose pain disappeared as soon as you saw the baby, I celebrate you πŸ™Œ All I was busy thinking of, was that episiotomy abi what do they call it ?πŸ™„  I didn't even want anybody to be 100 centimetres near me sefπŸ™…‍♀️ I only took the baby because it was hospital policy. At the time, I needed that sleep more than 'love at first sight'. Anyway, I just thought I'd encourage you who shares the same experience wit...
